Medical Disclaimer

Please read this carefully before using Health Shelf or its resources.

Health Shelf provides general health information and educational resources only. It is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

Important

Do not delay seeking or disregard professional medical advice because of something you have read on this website.

Information only — not medical advice

All content on Health Shelf — including text, downloadable resources, videos, and any tools — is provided for general information and educational purposes only. It is general and non-personalised, may not be suitable for your individual circumstances, and must not be relied upon as medical advice or as a recommendation for any particular course of action, treatment, product, or provider.

No doctor–patient relationship

Using this website, contacting us, or accessing our resources does not create a doctor–patient (or any other clinical or professional) relationship between you and Dr Campbell Murdoch, H5Health Ltd, or anyone associated with Health Shelf. We do not provide personalised medical advice through this website.

Always consult a qualified professional

You must seek advice from a suitably qualified healthcare professional who knows your individual circumstances before making any decision about your health, before starting, stopping, or changing any diet, exercise, medication, or treatment, and if you have any questions or concerns about your health. Never disregard, avoid, or delay obtaining professional medical advice because of information you have read here.

For adults

This website and its resources are intended for people aged 18 years and over. They are not intended for children or for use in the diagnosis or management of any specific individual.

Exercise and physical activity

The workouts, exercise instructions and effort guide on our interval timer page are general information for adults. They are not tailored to you, they are not medical or professional advice, and they may not be suitable for you. They do not replace advice from a professional who knows you. Although exercise can be good for your health, all exercise carries some risk of injury.

Get advice from a doctor, physiotherapist or other qualified health professional before you start if:

  • you have a heart or lung condition, high blood pressure, diabetes or any other long-term condition
  • you have ever had chest pain, fainting or dizziness, with or without exercise
  • you have an injury, a joint or back problem, or pain when you move
  • you are pregnant or have had a baby in the last year
  • you have recently had an operation, or been ill
  • you take medicine that affects your heart rate, blood pressure or balance
  • you are new to exercise, or coming back after a long break
  • a doctor or other professional has told you to limit or avoid exercise
  • you have any other concern about your health

Stop straight away if you get chest pain or tightness, feel faint or dizzy, become unusually short of breath, feel your heart racing or beating irregularly, or feel sharp pain. Call 999, or your local emergency number, if you have chest pain or tightness, or if any of these does not settle quickly with rest.

Start at a level that feels comfortable and build up gradually. Clear the space around you, use a floor that is not slippery, and make sure any chair, step, bench or equipment is sturdy and will not move.

You choose whether to do these exercises and how hard to work, and you do them at your own risk.

Individual results vary

Any outcomes, benefits, or timescales mentioned are general illustrations only. Health is individual, and results will vary from person to person. No specific result is promised or guaranteed.
